#BanFreeBasics

Person 'A' tell Person 'B' that the milk Person 'A' drinks is better for all Persons and thus should be made free. Person 'B' has no reason to believe that Milk 'A' is better or even important.

But Person 'A' invest millions of dollars to convince Person 'B', 'C', 'D' and all the way up to 'Z' that Milk 'A' is better and NECESSARY. Person 'K' isn't convinced and feels that Milk 'K' or 'Y' or 'M' should all be treated as milk and not as different necessities depending on the advertisement power of the Milk.

That's an analogy of what Facebook is doing for Free Basics. Free Basics is the forcing of the idea, that certain websites are better and more necessary than others and thus should be made free for users (websites including facebook). This idea of website inequality and privilege is wrong.

As a website holder, and possible small time business (most of which now run thanks to the internet) blocking my customers onto another website through government concessions is a violation of equal opportunities and rights. Because what my internet business has to offer is not considered 'basic' by someone in a parallel internet space, I suffer the shutting down and removal of my basic means to survival.

Facebook isn't a necessity. It's a waste of time - but it should be free? Because some rich guy paid money to the politicians in power to allow his privilege. Why isn't Orkut free then? or Google Plus. Why facebook? with similar opportunities and method of function. If numbers and users are the primary means to decide what's basic, google search and porn need to be basic and free.

Why Facebook's campaign needs to be called out is because it misleads and misinforms. Digital Equality cannot be in terms of the consumer reach, but also in terms of the digital production equality. True digital equality would allow every website to have an equal opportunity to be visited and used. Including this blog.

Free Basics is the opposite of Digital Equality.

What Facebook doesn't tell you is that the allowing of Free Basics, permits Facebook to hold records and data exactly like the government and even more (because of the stupidity of most of Facebook's users to share every usable information about themselves). If everyone in India was to have access and usage of Facebook, would Facebook not be able to know the more accurate population numbers and interests of these populations?

Since Facebook is free and has no revenue from internet users, would it not sell interest, personal information to advertisers and producers who now flock to Facebook to advertise their last means of internet survival?

Facebook is trying to replace the world wide web.

Free Basics must be banned. Net Neutrality is the better solution.
