I have been consciously making more efforts to spread love and make the people around me smile. What I have discovered is that what you think about and what you give to the universe, comes back to you. Perhaps it is because of social distance and people having the time and mental bandwidth to interact more often.
The reason I am posting this today is because of the situation across the world. It truly pains me that as a species we find it so much easier to look for the differences and become violent. I do not think war or violence is ever an option. It cannot be.
I don't want to get into the details of listing down the hateful crimes and acts being performed across the world. Whether it is by communities, by individuals or worse by governments. I am urging each person to seek out the love, kindness and compassion in the world. It exists, I promise you, it exists.
In case you need a reminder here are a few anecdotes of the wonderful compassion and kindness the world has shown in the past few weeks alone.
1. Social Distancing
Whether it is from helping people reach their family to their loved ones, or from the wonderful understanding that in order to grow we must maintain distance and boundaries. Barkha Dutt has been documenting the plight of people to reach their homes.
Think of how much having information has allowed the delay and reduced the burden on those around us; if you have avoided stepping out or in any way maintaining distance, you are part of this healing.
2. Medical Advancements and Frontline workers
The courage that people have shown in going to work despite the adverse conditions is phenomenal. The collaborative research and study to help in the smallest way are phenomenal.
I have seen and spoken to medical staff who continue to go to work every day. From my own experience, it is so heart-warming to see that delivery executives are going around providing food/essentials. Alliance India is delivering essential medicine to those who are unable to step out. Anyone who has been courageous and kind to step outside is an achievement.
3. Healing Nature
We all read of the wonderful environmental effects and healing noticed around different continents. Rivers and the air have managed to become cleaner, trees have grown and flowers have bloomed.
4. Rallying together
What this time has allowed is, for people to rally and rethink their beliefs and look at the world more empathetically.
There are children who are reaching out to their neighbours and distributing food packages. There are people raising their voices and protesting against all the injustice in the world. Friends are lending money to and donating.
I understand that news outlets must provide facts and information and (these frontline workers) must also show and document the bizarreness of the world at present, asking the right kind of questions and providing factual information. I'm urging you to please acknowledge their efforts and then think of the good. Seek out the good news.
There is truly so much good being done in the world. I only wish that more of the progress and compassion be documented because I believe that is a step towards healing. Focusing on the good, will heal faster and more.
It might be selfish, it might even be craving for that same kind of attention, but that could be secondary. The first step for me has been to simply spread and share more love. Whether it is a comment under someone's post, or if it is sharing and highlighting the achievements of those around me. It feels good and happy. I have made it a conscious decision that it may not be returned or it may not come back and that is irrelevant. It is being a carrier of love and happiness in the smallest means possible.
Then the magic happens - the joy multiplies and people are nice and kind. Even when without expecting it or without you wanting acknowledgement from them. The funny philosophy of the universe is such that the more you give, the more you want to give and it feels uplifting.
The constant reminder and lesson that I speak of is selfless love. Perhaps it could start slowly in a small way, within your capacity. I would truly recommend this to each person and I am writing this from personal experience and amazement at the wonders of the world.
So thank you from across the screen. Genuinely, thank you!
Now smile, please!
